My First Design Team Challenge for Scrap Our Stash – July Cartoon Sketch Challenge
This layout was created for the Scrap Our Stash July Cartoon Inspired Sketch Challenge. If you are interested in participating in this July “Carton” sketch challenge head on over to the Scrap Our Stash BlogSpot.
For this challenge, you must create a layout inspired by the sketch and also use an arrow. The sketch for this challenge is shown below.
I love the colors and Mickey Mouse’s patriotic outfit and so I decided to scrap some pictures that were taken on the 4th of July (United States Independence Day). The red, white and blue are the perfect colors for a patriotic layout.
The pictures in this layout are from 4th of July in 2015. I had moved from Texas back to Louisiana in April 2015. The house that I bought was on a lake and I had been told by my neighbors that there would be fireworks over the lake for 4th of July. I invited my Mom, my sister Terri and my nephew Chris to come over to celebrate and we were able to go out in the back yard and sit on the dock to watch the fireworks. The fireworks went on for about 45 minutes and it was amazing and seemed almost as grand as a Fireworks display at a place like Disney World. I didn’t take any pictures of the fireworks that day but my sister took a few pictures when Chris and I were playing with some sparklers.
For this layout, I was able to find a bunch of really old patterned papers and some stickers from the 4th of July category in my ScrapRack … I think I’ve probably had this paper for at least 15 years and this challenge inspired me to finally use some of it up.
For the title, I used the word “Happy” from the “Hello Joy” white foam Thickers and a “4th of July” sticker from the Me & My Big Ideas “Patriotic Kids” sticker sheet.
I made a tag using some white cardstock and some blue and white star patterned paper. I added some white and silver twine to the tag. The twine came from Love & Lemon which was a recent purchase from Tuesday Morning. I’ve never heard of the Love & Lemon brand but it’s starting to show up in our store and I’m looking forward to seeing what other Love & Lemon products our Tuesday Morning will get. I love to go shopping at Tuesday Mornings and usually try to go there at least every week or two. It’s so exciting to go hunting for crafty treasures and you never know what you’ll find.
I also added part of a stars borders from the Me & My Big Ideas “Patriotic Kids Border” stickers to the bottom of my tag. I decided to add the tag because I needed a place to put my title and my journaling. I really wanted to use the 4th of July sticker from the Me & My Big Ideas sticker sheet but the stickers were clear, so using the white tag gave a white background for the sticker. I also added some word strips from the Simple Stories “All American” cardstock sticker sheet.
An Uncle Same sticker and firecracker stickers from Me & My Big Ideas “Patriotic Kids”, some white foam stars from the “Hello Joy” thickers, a few resin stars in blue and white, a white arrow clip, gold stars, and some enamel dots finish off this layout. Here are some close ups.
Here’s a full picture of my layout.
I hope you join in on this month’s challenge. Happy 4th of July!!!
