"Scrap-A-Thon 3" Day 6 – Make Background Scrapbook Layout
It’s Day 6 of the Scrap-A-Thon 3 with Nicole Jones 911 and the technique for this day of the Scrap-A-Thon was creating a background. I used a stencil, some distress inks and a makeup brush to create a sky, sun, clouds and some buildings. The 12×12 stencil that I used was from TCW (The Crafter’s Workshop).
I loved working with this template and it was really easy to create a background scene. I had a 12×12 sticker sheet from Echo Park Beautiful Life scrapbook kit and it had some buildings. After I created the layout, I was not sure what picture to use and then thought that this would be a good layout
The picture used in this scrapbook layout is my house from when I lived in Richmond, TX. My Mom and I bought this house together from David Weekly Homes builder and had it built from the ground up. It was so much fun to pick out all the finishes and then to watch it go from an empty lot, to a beautiful house.
As I was creating the background, it was going fairly well … I really liked how the buildings came out but I didn’t like the sun. The color of the sun was a funky brown yellow … I think my brush had some blue or green on it when I made the sun and it mixed with the yellow ink.
To fix the sun, I used the template to create two more suns on a separate piece of white card stock and then fussy cut them out. I think sometimes when you make a mistake and you have to cover it up, your layout is even better than what you originally planned. I love the extra dimension in the sun with the layers and popping up the second sun with some foam tape.
This layout was a little challenging because I did the background without having a plan of how I would layout the pictures. But I think it turned out cute and it’s different from any other layout that I’ve done.
I’m a little behind on the class, so I need to get busy getting my layouts for Days 7 through 15 done. I think having to do new techniques as well as mixed media is slowing me down, not to mention working on 7 additional layouts for Calvin Ball.
So, I have six layouts done in fifteen days and only 16 Days to go!!!! I’ve got to get busy.
