LOAD 5-19 Day 9 – Adventure
For LOAD 519 Day 9, the LOAD prompt was “What would you change about your daily life to make it easier or more convenient” and/or use a moon or moon shape. I’m finding the LOAD prompts a little more difficult than I expected. Again, I really couldn’t come up with an idea for a layout for this prompt. And guess what, I went “Off Prompt” again. Yee haw!!! I feel like such a rebel.
I have been watching a lot of Missy Wheeden YouTube scrapbook process videos over the past year and I love her mixed media layouts. She uses a lot of products from Shimmerz Paints and I decided to jump in and place an order at ShimmerzPaints. I received my order a few days ago and I couldn’t wait to play with them.
I added gesso to some white cardstock and started to create some backgrounds. Wow, it was a lot harder than I thought it would to do what Missy does. I tried the packaging technique where you take a piece of plastic, add some paint and water it down and then you turn it upside down and smoosh it onto your paper. Missy makes it look so easy … I can see that I’m going to need a lot more practice. I was having trouble with the colors running together and creating a muddy color … either I was picking the wrong colors or maybe I needed to let it dry a little more before adding more colors.
I decided to just try to create a background that looked like the sky and I used the Shimmerz Paint called Anchors Away which is a deep, rich blue. This was so much fun and I played with the background until I had what I wanted … it looked like the sky on a sunny summer day.
The papers I used for this layout came from a My Mind’s Eye “Well, Hello” Paper and Accessories Kit that I found at Tuesday Mornings. The “Well Hello” collection is so colorful and features Llamas, Hot Air Balloons, Birds, Cactus and other fun images.
I used a blue and green plus pattern paper and applied it to the bottom of my watercolor background. The photo was backed by a Pink and White striped paper. I used the other side of the Pink and White paper and cut out some of the cactus images. I also fussy cut the Llamas from one of the papers in this collection.
I created a banner across the top of the layout using some banner stickers from the 6×12 sticker sheet included in the kit. Each sticker was attached to a piece of twine and a bow made from the twine was added to the left of the banner.
For the title, I used a white foam Thicker “Adventure”. I felt it was too stark against the background, so I did something that I’ve seen Missy Wheeden do, which was to add some Shimmerz paint. I think it turned out so pretty and almost looks as if the title is part of the sky.
I am almost out of Heidi Swapp Gold Color shine and when I went to buy some more, I found out that it was discontinued. I searched everywhere online, but the Gold color shine was no where to be found. I’ve tried a few other sprays trying to find a gold that could replace it and came across the Imagine Sheer Shimmer Gold Spritz. The Heidi Swapp Gold is a darker gold, but I find that the Imagine Gold is a brighter gold but just as pretty as the Heidi Swapp. I added some splatter with the Imagine Gold Spritz and I think the gold adds even more sparkle to my layout.
Some black and white Tim Holtz tiny word stickers, wood veneer and some enamel dots to complete the layout.
Here’s a full picture of my layout for LOAD 519 Day 9. The picture used for this layout is me and my Uncle Richard and was taken when our Cruise ship stopped at Cozumel, Mexico.
